What The Law Says
Landlords and agents can be fined up to $220,000 (individuals) or $1.1 million (companies) for failing to comply.
Corded internal window coverings are regulated by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). As of 2010, regulations require:
Corded blinds/curtains must not pose a strangulation risk
Cords must be secured with approved safety devices
Anchor points must be installed at a safe height and tension
Safety warning labels must be visible
All rental properties must comply before new tenants move in
